AZ-104 Exam Strategy & Key Topics
Case Studies — The Critical Section
The real AZ-104 exam includes 1-2 case study sections with multiple tabs (Requirements, Existing Environment, Questions). You must synthesize information across tabs to answer 4-6 questions per case. Practice reading through exhibits systematically — note constraints, requirements, and existing configurations before answering.
Master ARM & Bicep Questions
Infrastructure as Code appears frequently. You should be able to read ARM templates and Bicep files and understand resource dependencies. Questions test whether you can identify errors in template structure, missing parameters, or incorrect resource types. No need to write code from scratch — just read it correctly.
Networking Topics Bridge Multiple Domains
VNet peering, NSG rules, service endpoints, and private endpoints are tested alongside storage and compute questions. A typical question asks: "You have a VM that cannot access a storage account. What should you configure?" Know when to use service endpoints vs private endpoints — this appears on every exam.
Microsoft Entra ID (Azure AD)
Identity and governance is the single largest domain. Know: PIM for just-in-time access, Conditional Access policies, MFA registration, self-service password reset (requires P1/P2), RBAC vs Azure AD roles, and management group hierarchy. Questions frequently ask "What is the minimum license required for feature X?"
